Furr shows spurts of great play from his linebacker position but just needs to become more consistent and continue physically developing. He is tall, well-defined and his long body should continue packing on great bulk at the next level. Plays the middle in the game films we viewed but possesses the physical tools to mold into either spot in college. Not a real reactive athlete but he builds good speed with his rangy body and can cover a lot of ground. Between the tackles, he steps up and fills hard showing raw explosiveness from his hips at the point of attack; does need to watch his leverage and improve hand technique. Drives through his tackles with good force. Takes proper angles when pursuing laterally and sifts well for a taller linebacker; occasionally shows a burst hitting the run seam inside-out. Opens his hips well and shows adequate flexibility in coverage and when pursuing on the perimeter. However, he can chase well but is not a speed guy; can lumber a bit when pursuing sideline-to-sideline. Lack of fast-twitched athleticism is a concern when trying to slip the cutoff block and mirror quicker backs in zone schemes between the tackles. Struggles at times with stiffness when redirecting.More of a vertical attacker and loses some in transition when opening to turn in coverage or pursuing laterally. Overall, we like Furr's upside in the middle if he can continue to fill out to disengage bigger blockers at the next level while retaining his current range and athleticism.

Carver LB unlikely to join brother at Auburn | College recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
LeRon Furr, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker for Carver, Columbus, likely won’t join his older brother, DeRon Furr, at Auburn. But he could still wind up playing football in the SEC.
“I’ve got offers from Duke, Central Florida, Ole Miss, UAB, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Louisville,” LeRon Furr said. “Will I get an offer from Auburn? I don’t think so.”
The younger Furr has spent a portion of his summer on the recruiting trail.
“I went to Duke to a camp last week,” he said. “And I’ve been to Central Florida for junior day. I think I’m going to Mississippi State to a camp this weekend.”
As for recruiting advice from his big brother: “he told me to enjoy it and have fun.”

By A Bone. Texas A&M and Mississippi State have offered. Furr says he really liked his trip to Duke, but is still wide open.

Profile QandA: Carver-Columbus' LeRon Furr | College recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Q. What things do you look for in a school?
A. “Playing time, location and academics. I want to be where my parents can come and watch me play.”
Q. What school have you always been a fan of?
A. “I wasn’t really a big fan of just a certain team. If I was watching a game, I just went for the team I thought was going to win.”
Q. Where are you in the recruiting process?
A. “I’m just now starting to get back into the recruiting process. I’m trying to decide where I’m going to take my visits and stuff.”
Q. What’s the outlook for the Carver defense?
A. “Our defense this year is just as good as it was last year.”
Q. If you weren’t a football player, what would you be?
A. “I have no idea. I could play basketball, but I’m not a college prospect in basketball.”
Q. What’s a deal-breaker in recruiting?
A. “How I feel when I’m talking to coaches. If I feel like they’re saying things just to get me there, I don’t know if I’d be interested.”
Q. Who was the first to call?
A. “Coach [Chris] Key at Central Florida.”
Q. Do you get autograph requests?
A. “After the games, I might sign five or 10. It’s usually older people. I feel like they believe in me and they feel I can make it.”
Q. Is your recruiting like your brother’s?
A. “It’s pretty much the same thing. They tell you one thing, and then when you get there it’ll be different.”
