He is tall, lean but athletically-built and should explode with bulk once he attacks a fulltime college weight training program. Reads his keys well and gets a good jump to the football. Most productive when playing in space and utilizing his long-stride and rangy body to chase sideline-to-sideline. This kid can cover a lot of ground with proper pursuit angles; overall range on run and pass support is good. Can get knocked off of his pursuit due to his lack of strength but does show proper hand technique keeping blockers off his body with his long arms when scraping. Displays good short-area acceleration when closing on ball carriers in space and is a solid tackler. Shows a good burst filling his middle run gaps when employed inside. Mirrors ball carriers well between the tackles displaying adequate redirection skill for a taller linebacker. However, he does flash difficulty taking on uncovered linemen at the point of attack. Leverage and lack of good strength and explosiveness at the point of attack is a concern. Not great at stacking and shedding. On the outside, he struggles at times breaking down in space and mirroring ball carriers; a bit stiff pursuing laterally. Not a real fast-twitched athlete, tends to build speed. With that said, he shows athleticism in coverage and great potential as an outside blitzer/vertical attacker with his frame and good straight-line speed. Overall, Block is a good prospect if a program has a year or two to develop him. Projects best as a strong side 'backer. Could eventually grow into a defensive end with continued physical development or play the OLB spot in a 3-4.

Brock, however, last year's captain and leading tackler, could be on the opposite side of the ball. He's getting serious consideration at starting quarterback.

His defensive allies, or perhaps counterparts, don't seem to mind. They know first-hand what Brock can provide for an offense that has a lot of inexperience.

"Tanner has a defense mentality, he likes to hit and get hit," Hardy said about trying to tackle his former captain. "So when he runs, he doesn't necessarily hit the holes, he goes to where the players are and hits people. He likes to run you over."

Added fellow linebacker Tedder: "It (tackling Brock) is like hitting a wall. He'll make a formidable quarterback that I'd be glad I won't have to tackle.

"Plus, I know we have the depth that someone can step up in his position and fill the void. Having Tanner on defense would just be an added bonus."
