JULY 6, 2007. PREP STAR WILLIE MOBLEY, DT, from Eden Prairie, Minnesota has offers from Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Hawaii, Illinois and UCLA.
I went to UCLA's summer camp and really liked it." said Mobley, "They have great academic support. I like the coaching staff and the area (Los Angeles)."
"UCLA didn't push for a commit." he said, "At the time, I didn't have all my transcripts with me. I'm ready to go know grade wise. UCLA is a little tougher to get in."
"I hear from Crosgrove (Nebraska) a lot." said Mobley, "He text messages me. I plan on making an unofficial visit there some time."
"I like Iowa a lot." he said, "They were one of the first schools to offer me. I've been to Iowa City, it's real nice, not a big place but a nice college campus. I like the academics and coaches at Iowa too."
"Ohio State has a great coaching staff, I like them a lot." he said, "I'm going to visit them soon. I like the academics and history at Ohio State."
Mobley went on to say that next week he is going to visit Wisconsin. Mobley said Hawaii has not said much lately, but they are interested.

Jan. 19, 2007: Brewster faces tough recruiting test in state
Quote:

Mobley told me his top three schools are Wisconsin, Florida and Iowa. Maresh's top two are Wisconsin and Iowa. Both of those players said they are leaning toward those schools because they have had face-to-face contact with coaches from those schools.

Ohio State Scout - 07/15/07
Strange article. Willie discusses his academic difficulties, and his summer school plans. States that he is preparing a "top ten" list of schools, but that Ohio State would be in his top two. He also mentions Garrett Goebel, and that's where the article gets really bizarre. All around, good news for Buckeye fans, I think....

Five coaches sound off on the best players, changes for this season and the new Gophers coach.

Q: Who is the next-best player after Floyd?
Ferguson: I have to base this on what I've heard, not seen. I've heard about Sam Maresh at Champlin Park and Willie Mobley at Eden Prairie. We think Jordan Waiwaiole from Spring Lake Park is a strong player, and we've got special players here, too. It does a disservice to kids to rank them. What it points to is that Minnesota is producing more and more strong players.
Grant: I'd have to say our guy, Willie Mobley. College coaches are coming here to see two kids - Floyd and Willie. Willie's a legitimate Division I prospect. He has the size (6 feet 2, 265 pounds) and agility colleges are looking for. He's got a lot of top programs to choose from.
Nelson: The first name that comes to mind is the Mobley kid at Eden Prairie.
Scanlan: We've got some guys here that we are think are pretty darn good. Shady Salamon is one of them. It sounds cliche, but he can do it all. He will play defensive back and running back. He has already committed to Minnesota. They will be surprised at how good he is.
Thompson: I'm not 100 percent sure of everyone out there, but I do know you have to contain Willie Mobley.

"I flew in last Monday and I leave on the 20th," Willie Mobley said. "I have family in Orange County so I stayed with them, but I spent most of my time visiting UCLA. It's just so different from Minnesota. It's so diverse. That's probably the biggest difference between Los Angeles and the Midwest. L.A. is so ethnically diverse. I met people from Honduras and it was great getting to know about..."

- just visited UCLA and loved the diversity
- #1 factor in his decision might be playing time, but isn't insistent upon playing immediately.
- isn't overly concerned with current state of programs
- thinks he's fine academically
- favors: UCLA, Wisconsin, OSU, and Iowa

The four pillars

Eden Prairie seniors, from left, Willie Mobley, Carter Bykowski, Ryan Grant and Jeff Bowlsby are four of the Eagles’ top returning players. All four said last year’s championship was the highlight of their careers.

WILLIE MOBLEY, DEFENSIVE END
6-foot-2, 263 pounds
College: Undecided. He has more than 25 scholarship offers from top Division-I programs nationwide.
Earliest football memory: I grew up in Apple Valley, and you can't play until fourth grade there. I remember crying to my mom that I wanted to play early. They finally let me. I was the youngest, but I was still one of the biggest.
What drew you to football? My mom was a big college football fan. I always thought basketball would be my sport, but then when I put the pads on, I knew I was good at this.
Biggest football influence: My family. I really like that I'll have my school paid for and that they will be able to watch me and be proud of me. Every time I get on the field, I think of my family.
Best part of high school football: There's no worries. You go out there just because it's fun. People say college is the best, but it's high school.
Career highlight: The state championship. When it was over, it was like "What just happened?"
