"I didn't think it was a big deal, the de-commitment," former Gopher verbal David Gilreath said. "I think this was the best decision of my life."

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

Simmons Says He'll Commit Sunday

By Phil Kornblut
DB Darrell Simmons (6-2 194) of College Park, GA said Saturday night he plans to make a commitment to USC Sunday morning at the end of his official visit. "I'm supposed to meet with coach Spurrier around 11:30," Simmons said. Simmons said he was enjoying his visit to Columbia and was being hosted by his former high school teammates Carlos Thomas and Ladi Ajiboye. Simmons will become USC's 15th commitment. He has over 20 offers and also looked hard at Alabama, Miami, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Simmons Joins The Gamecocks

By Phil Kornblut
DB Darrell Simmons (6-2 194) of College Park, GA did commit to USC Sunday at the conclusion of his official visit. "I just felt that was the school for me," Simmons said. "I like all the new projects they have going on. Coach Cooper said I could possibly start as a true freshman at safety. Coach Spurrier said the same thing." Simmons was joined on the visit by his high school coach and while in Columbia he was reunited with former teammates Carlos Thomas, Addison Williams and Ladi Ajiboye. He said the chance to play along side them again was key to his decision. "That was very important," Simmons said. Simmons said he will not take any more official visits and he expects Spurrier to make an in home visit with him in a couple of weeks.

Simmons Headed To A Junior College
By Phil Kornblut

USC 2008 signee DB Darrell Simmons (6-2 196) is at home this semester dealing with issues regarding his high school transcript. But, Simmons said those issues have been resolved and he will enroll in January at Butler JC, KS. He will play the 2009 season there, and possibly 2010, though he's hopeful of being able to transfer after one season. Simmons said he's not heard from USC in a couple of months, but he would still like to end up in Columbia. "They might have forgotten me, but that's my school," Simmons said. "I'd love to be a Gamecock."
