McCallebb Visits Auburn
By Phil Kornblut
RB Onterio McCallebb (5-11 172) of Fort Meade, FL made an official visit to Auburn over the weekend. "He said he enjoyed it," said Fort Meade assistant coach Brian Bailey who met McCallebb at the airport upon his return. "He was amazed by the eagle. He might go back there for the Alabama game. Auburn might have jumped a little bit ahead since he just went there but he's keeping everything open. Clemson is still one of his top ones since he enjoyed himself so much when he went up there." McCallebb attended a summer camp at Clemson and will set an official visit with the Tigers. "We're going to get with coach Rumph this week and figure out when he'll visit,," Bailey said. McCallebb will visit West Virginia September 21st. He might take an unofficial visit to Georgia September 29th and set up an official visit with the Dogs for later in the year. He will also set an official visit with Rutgers.

Clemson has continued to work RB Onterio McCallebb (5-11 172) of Fort Meade, FL despite his commitment to West Virginia in September, and now the Tigers are right in the middle of things for the speedy back who has reopened his recruitment because of the coaching change in Morgantown. "Coach (Chris) Rumph was down a couple of weeks ago and talked to him," McCallebb's assistant coach Brian Bailey said. "With West Virginia changing coaches, it's opened things back up. They haven't returned any calls. We've been trying to get in touch with the offensive coordinator. Three days before his decision, coach (Rich) Rodriguez was at our school meeting with Ontario. I told coach Rumph he's definitely back on the table, wide open. I know when he was at Clemson this summer he loved it. Clemson is definitely in the mix." McCallebb has set an official visit to Clemson for January 18th, and he's scheduled to visit Rutgers on the 25th. Bailey said some outlets in New Jersey are reporting McCallebb recently committed to Rutgers, but he said those reports are false. He also has taken official visits to Auburn and West Virginia. Auburn joins Clemson and Rutgers in the race for McCallebb who rushed for 1800 yards this season averaging 11.7 yards per carry. He had 19 rushing touchdowns and returned 4 kicks for scores.

Auburn gets Monday commitment from McCalebb
Posted by Evan Woodbery, Press-Register January 14, 2008 12:59 PM
Running back Onterrio McCalebb of Fort Meade, Fla., verbally committed to Auburn today, giving the Tigers an unexpected pickup.
The news was reported by AuburnSports.com, which said that McCalebb also had offers from Clemson, West Virginia and Rutgers.
McCalebb visited the Plains back in September. He spent last weekend at Clemson, but committed to Auburn after an in-home visit today.
He becomes Auburn's 21st verbal commitment. It's unclear what position McCalebb will play in college. Rivals lists him as an all-purpose back/athlete.
McCalebb verbally committed to Rutgers in late December, according to Scout.com. That apparently didn't last long. Rivals.com reports that he also committed to West Virginia last September.
So, this will be McCalebb's third verbal commitment. With National Signing Day only a few weeks ago, Auburn hopes it will be his last.

Miners' McCalebb Commits to Auburn | TheLedger.com
Quote:
The power of Tommy Tuberville's personality won over Fort Meade running back Onterio McCalebb. The Miners' senior running back committed to Auburn on Monday shortly after visiting with the Auburn head coach, who was in Fort Meade.
''He looked me in the eye and he told me he would not lie to me,'' said McCalebb, who had committed to West Virginia last fall.
McCalebb went looking for a new school after Rich Rodriguez left West Virginia to take the Michigan job. He denied reports that he had also committed to Rutgers, although he did not deny Rutgers was his No. 1 choice.
Still, Auburn went hard after McCalebb and was at every Fort Meade football game this year.
''They said I'm not going to go there and sit,'' McCalebb said. ''They're going to give me the chance to get on the field. They treated me real well.''
The recruiting process isn't over. McCalebb, who plans to major in business, already made a visit to Auburn but still plans to make his visits to Clemson and Rutgers.
McCalebb was the county's second-leading rusher this past season with 1,880 yards and will run track this spring. He is the defending Class 1A state champion in the 100 and 200 meters.

Clemson had maintained strong interest in RB Onterio McCallebb (5-11 172) of Fort Meade, FL throughout the recruiting season despite his commitments, first to West Virginia and most recently to Auburn. McCallebb still planned to take his official visit to Clemson this weekend. But Clemson has canceled that visit and has ceased recruiting McCallebb.

Onterio McCalebb just returned from his Jan. 25 official visit to Rutgers and his host was wide receiver Kenny Britt. "It was awesome," he said. "I had a nice time. I liked getting to go to New York and seeing the city. We went into the ESPN Zone and checked out all the shops, saw where MTV is...it was real cool. They told me that I'd get the number three (his number from high school) and that..."

Running back Onterrio McCalebb, who originally signed with Auburn in 2008, will spend this fall at Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) but is still set to play for the Tigers, AuburnUndercover.com reports.
He said of the experience, "I had to come up here to make myself better and to get to Auburn to make (his mother) happy. That's the only way I would make her happy. When I go to Auburn, I'm hoping that I can make it to the NFL so my mama won't have to see the streets like that anymore."
