He may not run a 4.4 40, but he’s not slow, Weiner has said. The Panthers coach argued the numbers that should stand out are his production numbers. Apparently, college coaches are beginning to take notice.

University of Florida coach Urban Meyer visited the Plant campus on Thursday, the same day Winter was honored as the Guy Toph Award recipient, and has started to heavily recruit the Panthers leading receiver Weiner confirmed.

Winter and his family will drive to Auburn this weekend for a visit. It’s not far fetched to believe a road trip to Gainesville might be in the near future.

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh was at Plant on Tuesday. The Cardinal have already offered junior quarterback Aaron Murray a scholarship and Coach Harbaugh spent some time Tuesday getting more acquainted with Winter.

“I don’t really know what will happen, but there is some interest,” Plant coach Robert Weiner said.

Georgia Tech coaches were also at Plant on Tuesday. They’ve already offered Winter a scholarship and were trying to set a visit to their campus. Winter visited Auburn, which could be extending an offer as soon as Wednesday, last weekend and is scheduled to visit Iowa this weekend.

Winter spent the weekend getting to know the coaches and the campus at Iowa and while he was there, received a scholarship offer from Virginia. The top receiver in Hillsborough County the past two seasons will visit the Virginia campus next weekend.

Plant wideout Derek Winter wrapped up a busy Thursday by getting a full scholarship offer from Auburn University.

The Tigers had previously offered Winter a deferred “gray shirt” scholarship, but came through with the full offer Thursday night.

“He spent the day at Florida for his official visit and then the evening with the Auburn coach,” Plant coach Robert Weiner said. “Then he got on the phone with Virginia to set up his visit for this weekend.”

Winter will visit the Virginia campus beginning Friday. Weiner anticipates Winter will announce his decision before Wednesday’s National Signing Day.
