In person, Paterno recruits Pryor
By Jeff McLane
Inquirer Staff Writer
The Lion spent a winter morning in western Pennsylvania. Penn State coach Joe Paterno visited Jeannette yesterday in a last-ditch attempt to woo Terrelle Pryor, the nation's top-rated high school senior, east to State College.
The 81-year-old coach arrived at Jeannette High - located just outside Pittsburgh - mid-morning and left just after noon, according to Jeannette athletic director Bob Murphy. Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, Pryor's primary recruiter, and quarterbacks coach Jay Paterno accompanied the elder Paterno.
The three coaches met with Pryor, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound quarterback; his coach, Ray Reitz; and Murphy. Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch and Pryor's mother were also in attendance, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
"It went OK," Pryor said to the Post-Gazette. "I just don't know about the area up there."
Murphy described the meeting as "very cordial."
Penn State does not comment on potential recruits.
Pryor has narrowed his list to four schools - Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon - with one week until national signing day next Wednesday. He planned on announcing his decision that day on ESPNU at 12:05 p.m., but told the Post-Gazette yesterday that he may push back his news conference a few days so he could make an official visit to Oregon.

Blue vs. Gray: Tressel and Rodriguez plan to attend Pryor's basketball game
February 1, 2008
There will be two high-profile visitors to Pennsylvania when Jeannette High hosts East Allegheny for a basketball game Saturday.
Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez and Ohio State coach Jim Tressel are expected to attend the game to watch the nation's No. 1 football prospect, quarterback Terrelle Pryor, according to Jeannette football coach Ray Reitz.
Pryor's recruitment has intensified lately, as Penn State coach Joe Paterno and Oregon coach Mike Bellotti visited this week. Louisiana State coach Les Miles visited last week. Those schools are in the running for the 6-foot-5, 225-pound QB many compare to Vince Young. The first day a player may sign a letter of intent is Wednesday.

QB recruit Pryor's future not set in stone - The Daily Collegian Online
Quote:
By Travis Johnson
Collegian Staff Writer
JEANNETTE -- Take Route 30 westbound from State College through thick fog and steady rain for 120 miles. Stop half an hour outside Pittsburgh.
Welcome to Jeannette. Population: 10,095 -- plus one phenom.
That phenom is also the town's favorite son and quarterback, but soon he will be someone else's.
At 6-foot-6 and 235-pounds, Terrelle Pryor is the nation's most sought-after football recruit, and with scholarship offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Florida and Penn State on the table, both of the young man's cell phones ring constantly.
Coaches have sat down with him, including Joe Paterno. He has visited Ann Arbor, Mich. Ohio State recruits have made the trip to Jeannette to watch him play basketball -- all attempts to coax the high school senior.
But what will he do? Who will he chose?
Robert Murphy, Jeannette's athletic director, says he gets calls from reporters all over the nation who want to talk to Terrelle. The approach doesn't matter. It has worn the kid out. He's sick of answering questions.
He doesn't know where he's going. He'll decide next week, he says.
Tonight, Terrelle Pryor just wants to play basketball.

ESPN - Michigan's immediate future could hinge on Pryor - Insider

The best player left on the high school football recruiting market is big enough and strong enough to play defensive end. He is fast enough and tall enough to play wide receiver and quick enough and mean enough to play outside linebacker or safety.
But is Terrelle Pryor good enough to play quarterback and be a difference maker as a college freshman?
Coaches from Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State think so. In fact, new Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez might be banking on Pryor running his spread offense to make the team competitive in his first season in Ann Arbor. But at least one recruiting expert believes Pryor isn't ready for that daunting challenge of leading a collegiate offense so quickly.

No one closely associated with Pryor, of Jeannette, Pa., could be reached for comment. He indicated last week that he might not choose Wednesday, the first day national letters of intent can be signed, and make an official visit to Oregon.
His mind probably was still jumping from what happened Saturday night. Jim Tressel and several members of the Ohio State coaching staff showed up in Jeannette for Pryor's home basketball game. Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez and several members of his staff were there, too.
"I guess that shows how competitive coaches are getting over him," Mike Adams of Dublin Coffman said.
Adams, an offensive tackle who is rated the third-best overall prospect in the country by ESPN.com, committed to the 2008 OSU class almost 11 months ago. Since then, he has tried to lure others to Columbus and has stayed in touch with Pryor by various means.
They spoke by phone Saturday, Adams said, "but we didn't really talk about anything football related."

Pryor still up in the air on choice
Top-rated high school quarterback may not do letter of intent on national signing day.
By Kyle Nagel
Staff Writer
Monday, February 04, 2008
In a week that usually concludes the year's college football recruiting, Ohio State might not get its climax.
Terrelle Pryor, the superstar quarterback from Jeannette, Pa., said last week that he might not sign a national letter of intent on Wednesday, the first day football players are allowed to do so. The signing period lasts until April 1, and Pryor might take a final visit to Oregon to help him decide between Ohio State and Michigan (and possibly Penn State).

Reports coming from his hometown of Jeannette, Pa., say that decision may be delayed to allow him to make a last-minute campus visit or two.

Pittsburgh Gazette
Pryor to decide Wednesday
Monday, February 04, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Decision day will be at noon Wednesday for Terrelle Pryor.
Pryor, star quarterback at Jeannette High School, said today he is "80 to 90 percent sure" he will announce his choice at a news conference Wednesday. He had been considering pushing back his decision a week or so, and possibly visiting the University of Oregon.
But Pryor said he will not visit Oregon and the Ducks are out of the picture.
"I have to call them today and tell them," Pryor said.
Pryor said he will decide among Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, although Ohio State and Michigan have been the leaders all along.

REPORT: Terrelle Pryor will make decison public on Wednesday
February 4, 2008
FREE PRESS STAFF REPORTS
Highly-ranked high school quarterback Terrelle Pryor will follow the original plan and announce what college he'll attend in the fall, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
Pryor's principal and guidance counselor said the press conference is scheduled for 12 p.m. Wednesday at his school, Jeannette (Pa.) High.
It was rumored that Pryor was considering to delay his announcement to make visits to the University of Oregon and/or Penn State, but that is now not the case, according to the newspaper.
The announcement can be seen live on ESPNU.
Michigan and Ohio State are thought to be the two finalists.

Pryor is NOT coming to Oregon
by John Hunt Monday February 04, 2008, 12:14 PM
It's as final and as authoritative as any other statement surrounding the Ducks' courtship of Terrelle Pryor. He told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he is crossing Oregon off his list.
"I have to call them today and tell them," Pryor told the paper.
That means Pryor will decide between Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.
And the Ducks won't have quite the logjam at quarterback after their national recruiting efforts.

OSU FOOTBALL RECRUITING
Ohio State Buckeyes football waiting on top recruit Terrelle Pryor's Wednesday decision
Tuesday, February 05, 2008 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Wednesday is National Signing Day, and Ohio State may or may not know whether Terrelle Pryor will be a Buckeye by the time coach Jim Tressel holds a news conference at 4 p.m.
Does the confusion sound familiar?
Ohio State did add one player Monday, with an oral commitment from Georgia defensive end Keith Wells reported by numerous recruiting services. But there were conflicting reports from Pryor's world, with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporting that Pryor was eliminating Oregon from consideration and was "80 to 90 percent sure" he'd announce his decision on Wednesday. But Rivals.com reported that nothing had changed with Pryor and that he was still 50-50 on an announcement, with the Ducks still in the mix.

Pittsburgh Tribune
Pryor's decision could come Wednesday
By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Tuesday, February 5, 2008
Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor made an announcement Monday, but it's not the one many people are eagerly awaiting. Pryor said he's about 80 percent sure he'll sign a letter of intent Wednesday, the first day high school football recruits can make their choices official.
"I have to talk to my dad (Craig)," Pryor said. "This isn't an easy decision. Despite what you read, I haven't eliminated anyone yet."
Pryor was expected to make visits to Oregon and Penn State before he decided, but he has no plans to visit the two campuses this week. He said he has not eliminated Oregon.

OSU-MICHIGAN RIVALRY MAY BE ON LINE FOR PRYOR
Highly-touted recruit has decision to make
Tuesday, February 5, 2008
BY LARRY LAGE
AP SPORTS WRITER
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Terrelle Pryor lives in a small town near Pittsburgh, insulated from the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.
The highly touted quarterback is about to make a decision, though, that might end up making him a pivotal player in one of the marquee matchups in sports.
Pryor is expected to announce Wednesday where he will play football next fall and many will be surprised if he doesn't choose to play for the Buckeyes or the Wolverines.
"He has no idea what the rivalry is about and how much he has added to the intensity of it," said Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch, a family friend and recruiting adviser. "I know all about it after playing at Eastern Michigan and for the Lions, so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out if he chooses Ohio State or Michigan."
The Jeannette High School star might stay closer to home to play for Joe Paterno at Penn State. Or, he could possibly stun everyone tuning in to hear what he says on national TV by picking Oregon, LSU or Florida. Or he could take some extra time to make up his mind. Wednesday is only the first day of the signing period. While most top players ink a scholarship that day, they're not obligated to do so.
"He's still unsure what he is going to do at this point," Batch said Monday night.
