Freeman Set On One Official Visit
By Phil Kornblut
OL Dalton Freeman (6-6 265) of Pelion has not narrowed his list from the nearly 40 offers he holds, but he has decided Penn State will receive one of his official visits in the fall. Freeman has made a number of unofficial visits this summer stopping by Virginia, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Colorado, Nevada, Tennessee, Central Florida and Florida. Freeman said he is working on his list and hopes to trim it before his season. He said he has no favorites and is not near a decision. "The unofficial visits kind of opened my eyes," he said. "I'm going to take some time to reflect on those visits and try to figure it out. I'm hearing a lot from USC and Clemson and they are recruiting me as hard as anybody. Colorado has done an awesome job and that surprised me. They've done the best job. They send a lot of hand written notes from the head coach and the offensive line coach. It's meaningful stuff, not junk." Freeman added he's not sure if he'll take official visits to USC and Clemson since he's been to both many times.

The State | 09/08/2007 | Football | Scouting report
Quote:
NAME: Dalton Freeman
SCHOOL: Pelion
POSITION: Offensive guard
HEIGHT: 6-foot-6
WEIGHT: 270
WHAT DID HE DO FRIDAY? Freeman controlled the line of scrimmage and anchored the offensive line in Pelion’s 40-7 victory against Wagener-Salley. He also played on the defensive line the majority of the game.
HOW DID HE IMPRESS THE SCOUTS? Freeman has the prototypical size for the offensive guard position at the Division I level. He also possesses the body mass, low center of gravity and strong base that coaches prefer. He displayed the explosive strength to neutralize the defender’s upfield advance and the sustaining strength to turn the defender and drive him out of the play. Freeman is a one-on-one blocker, which means he can beat a defender by himself, but he did a good job of leveraging and cooperating during the double-team block. He showed his ability to pull and did a good job of leading the running back downfield.
He utilized an above average technique and showed good footwork in his pass drop set.
WHAT DOES HE NEED TO WORK ON? Freeman is a strong player but relies too much on his strength and not enough on his technique. After initial contact he did a good job of driving the defender but executed this more from brute strength and less from rolling his hips and driving his feet. Freeman also has good mobility, but he is not fluid when moving laterally and will need to work on his change of direction to mirror defenders at the next level.

Freeman Checks Out Penn State
By Phil Kornblut
OL Dalton Freeman (6-6 265) of Pelion made an unofficial visit to Penn State over the weekend. His father Ben, the head coach at Pelion, also made the trip. "We got back about 9:30 this morning," Freeman said Monday afternoon. "It was a good trip. It was an exciting ball gme, a great atmosphere to be in and be a part of. He was very impressed with what he saw. We ate lunch with coach Paterno yesterday and saw him after the game. All of that went well. He had met him this summer when he was up there on an unofficial visit." Freeman has not set any other official visits but his father said Florida and Florida State are two possible trips. "And he definitely will take a trip to Clemson," the coach said. "Georgia Tech has made a big push on him and he likes them. They scouted him Friday night. He went to the USC-Lousiana Lafayette game game and coach Spurrier spent a lot of time with him. He went to the Clemson-Florida State game and really enjoyed that, too. Both in state schools are in the mix and he's very much involved with both." The coach said his son hopes to narrow his list to eight or ten schools by the end of next week.

By N. Greer at the FSU site. Freeman talks about his unofficial visit to Florida State as well as his official visit to Penn State. He also talks about Deion Walker and says that they are keeping in touch. Though Dalton doesn't have a top ten yet, he says Penn State, Florida State, and Clemson will all make the cut.

Freeman Visits Colorado
By Phil Kornblut
OL Dalton Freeman (6-6 265) of Pelion made his official visit to Colorado over the weekend and was on hand for the big upset over Oklahoma. "We got there a little bit before kickoff and then watched an unbelievable game," Freeman said. "We went to coach Hawkins's house for dinner. He had all of his coaches and their families there. We ate breakfast this morning (Sunday) with all the coaches. It's a beautiful place with the mountains everywhere. The coaching staff is really close and have the same morals. I feel like the coaches care about you. It's a program on the rise." Freeman also has visited Penn State and will visit Florida State October 12th. He's undecided about his final official visits. Freeman said he will try to get to the USC-Kentucky game Thursday night, and he plans to be at the Clemson-Virginia Tech game this Saturday.

Film.
My Take: Dalton looks huge against the small school competition. Fluid movement but lumbering...will definitely need to improve lateral quickness. Technical and hardnosed, but will benefit from a step up in competition.
