A significant part of what earned Lemont its third straight playoff appearance last season was a victory over the team that had a 21-year playoff streak.
Lemont nearly did it again to playoff veteran Richards on Friday night until Tommie Thomas, the Bulldogs' elusive 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound quarterback, took control of the game in the final drive.
Thomas scored on a 4-yard scramble with three seconds left to tie the score and Xavier McKinney kicked the winning extra point as the No. 13 Bulldogs (4-0) stunned the No. 17 Indians 23-22 in Lemont.
"I had a little doubt on the sidelines," Thomas admitted after Lemont (3-1) scored twice in the fourth quarter to turn a 16-7 deficit into a 22-16 Indians lead.
