Open gym report V1.5 - JSOnline
Quote:
J.P. Tokoto: I'd never seen Tokoto play prior to Sunday. But after just a couple games, I was right on board with everyone else who believes the Menomonee Falls wing is a stud in the making.
He's long and lanky, probably between 6-4 and 6-5, and really skinny, which is to be expected at that age. What you don't expect to see out of many kids that age is the athletic ability or the maturity he exhibited on Sunday.
While Tokoto's overall game still appears somewhat raw (again, this is the first time I've seen him, and it was an open gym), he more than made up for it with his leaping ability and quickness. He threw down a couple of big dunks, read the passing lanes well for a few steals, and was able to get some things done in close despite his lack of physical strength by either reading the ball or getting on the pogo stick.
Tokoto spent most of the day matched up against Erik Williams, and he more than held his own. It was intriguing to watch the two go at it, and Tokoto didn't back down a bit. He also seemed at ease, which, for a high-school player, is saying something. I've seen plenty of other high-schoolers come into that environment and become intimidated or ineffective by trying to do too much, and that certainly wasn't the case Sunday.
There's still a long way to go in his recruitment, but it's easy to see why MU, UW and Kansas have all offered him already. It's a safe bet he's going to have plenty more of the biggies calling on him before it's all said and done.

"I didn't think it was a big deal, the de-commitment," former Gopher verbal David Gilreath said. "I think this was the best decision of my life."
"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."
